The Managed Forest Program evolved from the old Woodlands Improvement Act program run by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in the 1980’s. The Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP) is designed to encourage landowner participation in natural resource stewardship on private forest land in Ontario. You can qualify for the program very easy even if you just cut firewood or build walking trails, feed wildlife, hunt etc. The deadline for new plans each year is June 30th. Lakeside Forestry has written over 250 plans since 1997 and saved area landowners $1000.00 of dollars in property taxes. Plans for small acreage’s 50 acres or less are only $600.00 and plan cost is almost always covered by the first years tax savings.
